He was born in Atlanta, Georgia and admitted to bar, 1975, Georgia; 1976, South Carolina; 1980, District of Columbia; 1984, New York; U.S. Court of Appeals, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits and U.S. Supreme Court. Robert Thompson, Jr. comes from a long lineage of legal expertise and excellence. His father, Robert Thomas Thompson, Sr. was an iconic labor attorney. His legend and expertise not only lives in his son, but in the Thompson Law Group, LLC.

Robert Thompson Jr. has over 36 years of extensive experience and is author of, "Substance Abuse and Employee Rehabilitation". Mr. Thompson wrote this book as a guide to handling substance abuse issues and developing programs in the workforce. The guide quickly gained popularity and was adopted across several industries. He is a valued member of the Allied Georgia Employers’ Network on Drug Abuse (AGENDA), 1990-1993; South Carolina Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, 1992-1993; Board of Directors, Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), 1992-2002; United States: President’s Commission on Model State Drug Laws, 1992-1993; Vice-Chairman, National Alliance on Model State Drug Laws, and President, Metropolitan Atlanta Council on Alcohol and Drugs (MACAD). Thompson is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Emory University of Law, as well as a council member of Emory Law School.
