Practice Areas: Mr. Joseph's practice is concentrated in the defense of persons charged with crimes in federal and state courts, including murder, arson, mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, securities fraud, income tax evasion, controlled substance, and pornography prosecutions, and related civil matters, including property forfeiture, insider trading, and false claims cases. Admitted: After graduating from law school in 1972, Mr. Joseph was admitted to practice before the Kansas Supreme Court, all other Kansas courts, and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. Over the years, Mr. Joseph has been admitted to practice before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits and before the United States Supreme Court. He has been admitted to appear as counsel in particular cases (pro hac vice) in the courts Colorado, Florida, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Texas, and Washington. Mr. Joseph has been admitted pro hac vice by the federal district courts in Colorado, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

Law School: The University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence, Kansas, awarded Mr. Joseph a Juris Doctorate degree in 1972. While attending law school, he wrote for the Kansas Law Review and served as an Associate Editor.

College: Graduated from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969.

Professional Organizations: Mr. Joseph has been a member of the American and Kansas Bar Associations for more than 30 years. He is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Professional History: After graduating from law school, Mr. Joseph was appointed by United States District Judge William R. Collinson, Western District of Missouri, to serve as his Law Clerk from 1972 to 1974. He was an Assistant District Attorney in Wichita from 1974 to 1978, and he was the head of the appellate division in that office for three years. The Kansas Attorney General appointed him Special Assistant Attorney General in 1982 and 1983 to provide representation to state district judges named as parties in specific litigation. He has been engaged as a Special Prosecutor by several Kansas county and district attorneys to prosecute difficult cases. In 1978, Mr. Joseph entered private practice and has concentrated in criminal defense matters for more than 25 years.

Special Notes: Governor John Carlin appointed Mr. Joseph to serve as the first Chair of the Kansas State Board of Indigents Defense Services when that agency was created by the Kansas Legislature in 1984. Prior to that, Mr. Joseph served at the pleasure of the Kansas Supreme Court on the Board of Supervisors of Panels to Aid Indigent Defendants.
