Dan McKenzie has devoted his career to helping individuals recover compensation for harm done to them by the fraud, carelessness, and failure of businesses and government agencies to live up to their legal obligations and responsibilities. He engages in all types of complex litigation in pursuit of this goal, including class actions, mass torts, and complicated commercial cases. He is licensed in Colorado and Illinois, and has handled cases in state and federal courts around the country.
Mr. McKenzie’s commitment to helping individuals taken advantage of by unfair business and government policies and practices predates his career as a lawyer. Prior to attending law school, he worked as a policy analyst at a leading Washington, D.C. think tank, studying the impact of changes to the welfare system on its recipients. While a student at Northwestern University School of Law, he helped low-income Chicagoans in danger of losing their homes to predatory lending practices. He also served as the school’s “public defender,” assisting fellow students who had been accused of honor code violations navigate their way through its internal justice system.
In 2012, Super Lawyers magazine named Mr. McKenzie a “Rising Star” in Colorado. The Rising Star award is given to only 2.5% of those eligible for consideration, and recognizes exceptional attorneys who have attained a high degree of professional achievement.
In 2009, the Anti-Defamation League, a civil rights organization dedicated to eradicating antisemitism and securing “justice and fair treatment for all,” selected Mr. McKenzie for its Glass Leadership Program, a year-long course on protecting and advocating for civil rights in local communities. He is now a member of the ADL’s Mountain States Region Board of Directors. As a board member, Mr. McKenzie offers policy recommendations and publicly advocates for the ADL’s positions.
