Attorney Cayer was first drawn to the field of immigration from a very early age. Both his father and mother were U.S. Foreign Service Officers and Consular officers. As such, he moved around |
frequently as a child since his parents’ assignments at a U.S. Embassy were usually of two years’ duration. He was born in Naples, Italy and grew up in Morocco, Laos, Canada, India, the Philippines, Germany, and Taiwan. He finished his overseas experience as a dependent living in Seoul, Korea for two years and graduated from Seoul American High School in 1989. Attorney Cayer enjoyed the cultural diversity and excitement that a life of frequent travel overseas offered. Over his professional career, Attorney Cayer has assisted hundreds of companies in obtaining temporary visas for their employees, as well as sponsoring those employees for permanent residence. The temporary visas include TNs, H-1Bs, Ls, and Es. He recently successfully obtained an R visa and then permanent residence on behalf of a Malawian priest. He has had success in patiently working with various U.S. Consulate and Embassies in the issuance of visas, especially in the issuance of B-2 visas and overcoming the presumption of immigrant intent. He has also assisted U.S. citizens and permanent residents in the sponsorship of their relatives for permanent residence. At a prior firm where he worked for over ten years, Attorney Cayer was also called upon to assist in the filing of paperwork on behalf of the non-U.S. athletes of one of Boston's professional sports teams. Aside from some of the more routine filings, Attorney Cayer enjoys thinking outside the box. He has successfully assisted in the filing of National Interest waivers for deserving foreign nationals, including a Venezuelan national and accomplished tennis player who assists at-risk youth through sports; a British national and engineer developing equipment for the blind; and a Canadian national and lawyer who is expert at structuring transactions that ensure affordable housing for the poor. Attorney Cayer received his B.A. in Political Science from Boston College in 1993. In 1996, he obtained his J.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. While in law school, he studied international law for a semester in London through a collaborative program with the University of Detroit. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Law & Politics magazine named Attorney Cayer as a Massachusetts Super Lawyers "Rising Star" in the field of immigration law for 2011. Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars are selected as the up-and-coming attorneys in their respective practice areas by their peers and verified by the attorney-led research staff at Law & Politics magazine. |
