Chris Lovrien represents companies in high-stakes commercial litigation, internal investigations, and prelitigation counseling. His practice focuses on contract disputes, antitrust claims, securities matters, and the defense of class actions. He has litigated cases before federal and state courts throughout the U.S. and has substantial experience in arbitration and mediation. Chris has obtained total defense summary judgments on behalf of Firm clients (including a case seeking $1 billion in damages), achieved dismissals at the pleading stage, and otherwise successfully developed and implemented strategies for early victory.
Chris's recent accomplishments include a complete defense verdict on behalf of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles after a four-week arbitration. He also was part of the Jones Day team that defeated an attempt to enforce an alleged foreign country "judgment" against the Firm's client and then pursued substantial sanctions against plaintiffs' counsel in a unique Ninth Circuit special proceeding. Additionally, Chris helped achieve a landmark Privacy Act settlement on behalf of former nuclear scientist Dr. Wen Ho Lee after successfully opposing writs of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Chris has litigated dozens of cases involving federal and state antitrust and unfair competition laws (including California Bus. & Prof. Code section 17200). He also has represented public companies and their officers and directors in securities matters and SEC investigations.
Chris has been recognized repeatedly as a "Super Lawyer Rising Star" by Law & Politics and the publishers of Los Angeles magazine. He is the administrative partner for Jones Day's Los Angeles Office.
