Randi Susan Klein opened up her law firm in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1991, shortly after she was admitted to the California Bar. She represented clients in criminal and civil matters throughout San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Jose counties. The civil portion of her practice included personal injury, landlord/tenant, chapter seven bankruptcies, family law and juvenile dependency. The main focus of her practice was on family law and dependency matters.

In May 1999, Ms. Klein relocated to Southern California, and moved her practice to downtown Los Angeles. Since that time she has been practicing family law. She also works for trial lawyers on a per diem basis, wherein she covers court appearances, depositions, bench trials and motions. Ms. Klein has covered family law and civil matters in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, and San Bernardino counties.

Family Law

The primary focus of Ms. Klein's family law practice is on matters involving children. Ms. Klein has an extensive background in juvenile dependency, which she acquired during her first eight years of practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her experience in juvenile dependency distinguishes her from other family law attorneys who represent parties involved in child custody disputes.

Dependency cases involve children who have been placed in the foster care system during a time when their parents are unable to care for them. Many of those cases involve situations where the parents are incarcerated or addicted to drugs and are going through rehabilitation. Accordingly, the decision to place these children with suitable relatives or foster care parents during this transitional period is crucial, and is made early on. Where these children are placed is often determinative of whether or not they will ultimately reunite with their biological parents, remain in the foster care system, or be adopted. Ms. Klein has represented parties from all perspective in the dependency system. She has represented parents who have been accused of abuse and neglect, foster-adopt parents, legal guardians, and children.

Due to her background in dependency matters, Ms. Klein is often appointed by local judges to represent children in family law matters. She also represents parents on a privately retained basis, not only in contested custody battles, but also in all other aspects of dissolution proceedings.

Court Appearances and Per Diem Work for Trial Lawyers

Ms. Klein also works on a per diem basis for trial lawyers. She covers court appearances, bench trials, motions, depositions and ADR proceedings. By hiring Ms. Klein, the attorneys for whom she appears are able to remain in their office, cultivate new business, and meet with clients. They also save the time and expense involved in commuting across town to appear in court on routine matters.

The advantage to hiring Ms. Klein is that the attorneys who use her services do not have to go through a brokerage firm. Hiring a contract attorney through one of these firms is a like rolling dice. You never know who is going to show up or what kind of impression they will leave on the court. Ms. Klein is located within walking distance of the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles, and appears in that court on a regular basis. Thus, she knows most of the local judges and their staff, and has a good working relationship with them. She also knows what many of the individual judges expect, and she prepares accordingly.

Law School Experience

While attending law school, Ms. Klein clerked for the California Supreme Court and the California Attorney Generals Office in San Francisco. Thus, in addition to her experience as a litigator, she also has honed writing skills.

Continuing Education

Ms. Klein regularly attends continuing educational courses through the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills Bar Associations, as well as the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA).

In addition, she regularly attends and participates in workshops and seminars put on by The Trail Advocacy Project (TAP) of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
