Eric R. Hoonhout is an Associate Attorney, and is a member of our Real Estate Practice Group.  Mr. Hoonhout practices primarily in the areas of real estate, banking, and corporate and other business transactions.

Prior to joining Norton, Hammersley, Lopez & Skokos, P.A., Mr. Hoonhout practiced with the law firm of Young Bill, Roumbos & Boles, P.A. in Pensacola, Florida.  During his time with Young, Bill, Roumbos & Boles, P.A., he maintained a busy litigation practice in both federal and state courts in the areas of bad faith, construction defects, and insurance coverage matters.  While in law school, Mr. Hoonhout served as Florida State University’s “University Defender,” the University’s top public defender for students accused of violations of the University’s Student Conduct Code.  Also while in law school, he worked as a law clerk in the Office of the Inspector General of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (Tallahassee, Florida), and at the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office (San Bernardino, California).

Mr. Hoonhout earned his Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, in 2010 from the Florida State University College of Law (Tallahassee, Florida).  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree (History) in 2006 from Augsburg College (Minneapolis, Minnesota).  Mr. Hoonhout played on the Men’s Soccer Team at Augsburg College (NCAA Division III).

Mr. Hoonhout is a member of the Florida Bar, the Florida Bar Young Lawyer’s Division, the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, the Sarasota County Bar Association, the Sarasota County Bar Association Young Lawyer’s Division, the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Group, the Sarasota Seminole Club, the Sarasota Association of Realtors (Affiliate Auxiliary), and several other local organizations.  He proudly serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Haven, Inc. of Sarasota, Florida, a long-standing local non-profit dedicated to providing a variety of integral services to children, teens, and adults with disabilities, and as a member of the Volunteer Committee of the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Group.

He is licensed to practice in all Florida state courts, the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Florida, and the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Florida.
