Jack Hanssen has over six years of experience working with Moyes & Associates, PLLC since arriving here in 2004, shortly after his graduation from Notre Dame Law School.  A large part of his practice here has focused on assisting clients with real estate matters.  A member of the Real Estate section of the Virginia state bar, he has handled a wide variety of cases including: landlord-tenant representation and unlawful detainers, negotiation of easement disputes and real estate litigation, commercial lease and contract negotiation, business sale agreements, subdivision and boundary line adjustments, and Loudoun County real estate tax assessment appeals before the board of equalization. Last year, he worked with David Moyes to handle more than 140 tax assessment appeals before the Loudoun Coutny board of equalization. He also represents clients with wills, trusts, and estates, as well as probate and estate administration.  Recently, he has joined with David Moyes to develop an extensive experience in representing landowners in conservation easement transactions and land preservation tax credit applications.

His practice areas also include business law and organization, and he has assisted clients in setting up numerous limited liability companies in Virginia.  As part of this practice he assisted a group of physicians in drafting a private placement memorandum for an exempt securities offering to finance the construction of a multi-million dollar physician-owned medical office building.

During law school, Jack Hanssen spent his summers clerking for Federal Magistrate Judge John Facciola in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and D.C. law firms including Stein, Mitchell & Mezines (now Stein, Mitchell & Muse).  After entering the Virginia Bar in 2002, he began his practice in Fairfax County where he handled primarily criminal and landlord tenant disputes. Prior to coming to the firm, he also helped start up two real estate settlement companies in the area and handling discovery in large scale federal litigation.

A native of Northern Virginia, Jack lives north of Leesburg, with his wife and three boys, on a small farm where they keep horses and a menagerie of other animals. He and his wife are active members of St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Leesburg, where he served on the Building Committee for the new church they are constructing on the corner of King Street and Oakcrest Manor Drive.
