The Alaska Public Defender Agency’s 2010 Litigator of the Year, Chester has a proven track record of courtroom success. Before founding Cashion Gilmore, Chester developed his litigation skills as a plaintiff’s lawyer, public defender and civil defense attorney.
A lifelong Alaskan, he began his legal career as a law clerk for Justice Alexander O. Bryner of the Alaska Supreme Court. Within a year he had returned to argue his first case before the Court. In his early years of practice, he split his time between Anchorage and Bethel, Alaska. Representing rural Alaskans, he obtained large settlements for his clients on a variety of cases, including excessive force, premises liability and airplane accidents.
Thereafter Chester joined the Alaska Public Defender Agency and tried dozens of cases, representing hundreds of clients on serious felony charges. His jury trial results include not guilty verdicts on murder indictments, weapons assault charges, sexual assault cases and serious property offenses.
After leaving the Public Defender Agency, Chester practiced in the areas of professional malpractice defense, products liability, and complex litigation. He takes particular interest in representing members of the local medical and legal communities in civil suits and other legal matters such as HIPAA compliance, data security, and Medicaid and Medicare fraud.
