David T. Courie, a Fayetteville native, first began working with our firm in 1994 as a law clerk to senior partner H. Gerald Beaver while attending the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. Mr. Courie became a partner with Beaver Holt Sternlicht Glazier Britton & Courie, PA in January 2001.

Prior to law school, David attended the Fayetteville Academy, and then the Lundy - Fetterman Business School at Campbell University on a Presidential Scholarship where he obtained a major in Trust and Estate Planning and a minor in Financial Planning.

Following his undergraduate studies, David was invited by United States Senator Jesse Helms to work in his Washington, D.C. office as the Senator's special assistant. David served the State and the Senator at this post until deciding to return to North Carolina to began his legal studies at Campbell.

Since obtaining his J.D. from Campbell and joining the firm as an Associate in 1997, David has work side by side with senior partner H. Gerald Beaver in representing at all levels of criminal and civil practice. In addition, David has developed his own extensive practice in district court and superior criminal court, having already represented hundreds of clients in Cumberland and surrounding counties.

Overall, David's practice covers all stages and levels of criminal representation including traffic, misdemeanor, felony and federal charges as well as alcohol law enforcement, personal injury and several high-profile cases in recent years.

He is an active member of the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Cumberland County Bar Association, and the Cumberland County Young Lawyers Division. Additionally, David was recently selected as a candidate for membership in International Who's Who of Professionals and the Index of America's Best Attorneys.

David is also very involved in civic activities throughout Fayetteville and the State. In 1997, he assisted Rebecca Britton in coaching the Westover High School Mock Trial Team which won the regional and state championships, as well as placing 5th in the National Mock Trial Competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In 1998, he served as chairman of the Cumberland County United Way, Attorneys Division. He served as president of the Cumberland County Young Lawyers Association from 1999 to 2000. He is presently on the board of directors of the Cape Fear Lung Association and is chairman of the Fayetteville Board of Adjustment.
