Since 1982, Joel's legal practice has emphasized Involvement in labor and employment matters, state and federal, primarily for private as well as public sector employers.
In that representation, Joel has counseled numerous employers regarding matters which are critical for their management of personnel. This has included advice and counsel regarding employment discrimination and wrongful discharge issues, employee benefits, federal civil rights, covenants not to compete, labor grievances, unemployment insurance and wage/hour issues. Joel has also helped clients when drafting personnel policies and procedures (including anti-harassment in the workplace), employment contracts, compensation agreements, employee severance/layoff agreements and out-of-court settlements. In this practice, Joel frequently represents clients before State and Federal administrative agencies in Wisconsin and Minnesota, including the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.
Away from the office, Joel enjoys downhill skiing during the winter months and bicycling when weather permits. He is also a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers.
Joel is a member of the Eau Claire County Bar Association and over the years has regularly volunteered to provide free legal assistance to the community as part of the County Bar's Free Legal Clinic. Joel has also spoken to many groups about ongoing developments and trends that are important to know in labor and employment regulation.
His undergraduate degree is from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. His degree in law is from the Hamline University School of Law located in St. Paul, Minnesota. Joel is licensed to practice law in both Wisconsin and Minnesota.
