Barkan, Irving

Dr. Barkley is an associate in the intellectual property department. He advises clients on patent prosecution strategy in the chemical, medical devices and biotech fields, as well as provides infringement and freedom-to-operate analyses. Dr. Barkley has performed due diligence research for clients purchasing patent portfolios in addition to drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He has several years of experience working in intellectual property boutique law firms prosecuting patents, researching competitor patents for infringement, as well as doing legal research.

Dr. Barkley holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and previously clerked for a pharmaceutical company assisting the in-house intellectual property counsel in the prosecution of several patent portfolios throughout the world. He also worked for the Office of Technology Transfer at the University of Utah, drafting technology transfer agreements and researching potential technology transfer partners in the business community.
