Barry A. Zimmerman was born in 1961, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, with majors in Law and Communications.
Mr. Zimmerman attended law school at Golden Gate University School of Law, San Francisco, graduating in 1986. After law school, Mr. Zimmerman served as a summer law clerk for Federal District Court Judge Lawrence Karlton of the Eastern District of Sacramento.
After passing the Bar examination in 1987, Mr. Zimmerman worked as a Research Attorney for the Sacramento County Superior Court until 1989. Between 1989 and 1992, Mr. Zimmerman was an associate attorney for the elite personal injury law firm of Friedman, Collard and Poswall. In 1992, Mr. Zimmerman left Morton Friedman's office to pursue interests in criminal law serving as a Deputy Public Defender in Placer County until 1994. Mr. Zimmerman opened his own law practice in 1994.
Over the past 25 years, Mr. Zimmerman has tried over 40 cases to jury verdict. His recent successes include an $700,000 wrongful death settlement against Round Table Pizza involving a speeding delivery vehicle; a $300,000 settlement for a contractor injured at a dangerous job site; a $650,000 settlement for a school bus driver rear ended by a pick up truck; and hundreds of other successful settlements for motorists, pedestrians, patrons, patients, employees, and other consumers.
Mr. Zimmerman has also successfully defended people accused of every kind of criminal charge from DUI to Murder. In 2002, Mr. Zimmerman became one of Placer County's only State Bar Certified Legal Specialists in Criminal Law. Mr. Zimmerman has also argued a case before the California Supreme Court (People v. Sargent (1999) 19 Cal.4th 1206). His recent successes include dismissal of all charges in a gang shooting where his client was facing life imprisonment; dismissal of all charges in a case charging a threat upon an executive officer and dismissals of prior strike convictions.
Mr. Zimmerman was elected President of the Placer County Bar Association in 2000. He was voted by his peers to be a Northern California Superlawyer in 2005. Mr. Zimmerman is a member of Consumer Attorneys of California; California Attorneys for Criminal Justice; and the Placer County Bar Association. His interests include travel, music, and sports.
