Zaid, John K.

Mr. McAllister received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in 1966 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California in 1969. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1970.

Mr. McAllister served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, where, as a Captain, he prosecuted courts martial.

For over ten years Mr. McAllister was a Stanislaus County Deputy District Attorney, with a title of Senior Trial Deputy. For several years he was responsible for all of the drug prosecutions of the Stanislaus County Drug Enforcement Unit.

Since 1977, Mr. McAllister has been certified as a specialist in criminal law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. On September 28, 2007 he was honored at the California State Bar Convention for his thirty years of service as a Certified Criminal Law Specialist.

In 1983 Mr. McAllister joined the law firm of Zuckerman, Hartmann and Walden, as its civil litigator.

In 1986 Mr. McAllister established his own office concentrating on criminal defense and civil litigation.

Mr. McAllister has taught evidence at California State University, Stanislaus. He has twice served as the President of the Stanislaus County Criminal Courts Bar Association and has served as a director of the Stanislaus County Bar Association. He is a member of the Stanislaus County Bar Association, the Sonoma County Bar Association, the Merced County Bar Association, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).

Since 2007 Mr. McAllister has been listed in California Super Lawyers.
Mr. McAllister was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2008
He is the author of The Criminal Trial Book (Promakos 2008), a procedural and constitutional law text for the courtroom criminal lawyer.

Beginning in January 2009, Mr. McAllister will also be an adjunct professor teaching Advanced Criminal Procedure at Santa Clara School of Law.
