Steve Mason is one of the original partners of Mason & Thomas. He has been a trial lawyer for over four decades after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. Admitted to practice in California and all Federal Courts, including the United States Supreme Court, his practice has consisted almost entirely of civil trial litigation in the areas of public entity liability, premises liability, auto accident, construction, insurance bad faith, and general negligence.
From 1965 to 1977, Mr. Mason was an attorney with the State of California, rising to the position of Supervising Trial Attorney. He had statewide responsibility for major multi-party litigation involving the California Outdoor Advertising Act. As Supervising Trial Attorney for the State of California, Mr. Mason had the responsibility for the defense of tort liability matters against the State of California, Department of Transportation.
In 1977, he joined Fitzwilliam, Memering, Stumbos & DeMers where he had primary responsibility for defending public entities. In 1978, he was a founding partner of Stumbos & Mason, which became Stumbos, Mason & Thomas in 1989, and Mason & Thomas in 1993. He has extensive trial experience and has taken over 100 jury cases to final verdict.
Mr. Mason is a member of the Association of Defense Counsel, Northern California, and of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Mason has served as an Arbitrator and Judge Pro Tem in the Superior Court for Sacramento County.
