Ms. Magruder received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, with honors, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver in 1989. She began her legal career as a prosecutor for the City and County of Denver. During her first year as a prosecutor, she tried more than 50 cases. Ms. Magruder next worked as an Assistant Attorney General with the Colorado Attorney General's office, Labor and Civil Rights Unit. There, Ms. Magruder represented the Colorado Civil Rights Division, the Subsequent Injury Fund, and other state agencies.
Upon leaving the Colorado Attorney General's office, Ms. Magruder practiced in the private sector, representing employers, insurance carriers, and other entities in the defense of workers’ compensation claims, employment discrimination claims, and general liability claims.
While employed in the private sector, Ms. Magruder was asked to become the in-house attorney for the City and County of Denver's Human Resources Agency. There, she handled projects for the Director of the Agency, including rewriting personnel rules for the City and County of Denver, and creating the first mediation program to be utilized by City and County of Denver employees.
Next, Ms. Magruder returned to the private sector and served as In-House Counsel for Zurich Insurance. Upon leaving Zurich Insurance, Ms. Magruder became one of the founding members of Cairns, Nemechek & Magruder, LLC. Ms. Magruder later became one of the founding members of Nemechek & Magruder, LLC. Ms. Magruder is currently Of Counsel at McGloin, Davenport, Severson and Snow, P.C.
Ms. Magruder has represented private companies, insurance carriers and other entities in the defense of employment discrimination claims, unemployment insurance claims, wage and hour claims, contract disputes, and general liability claims. In addition, Ms. Magruder works as a consultant for private companies in the areas of risk management, employment law and management practices.
Ms. Magruder has extensive trial and hearing experience. She has frequently been asked to provide training, and has given numerous presentations on topics in the areas of: basic management principles; all Federal and State anti-discrimination laws; Federal and State wage and hour laws; the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act; and risk management.
