Tameka A. West, Esq. graduated summa cum laude from Clark Atlanta University with a B.A. in Political Science and received her law degree from the University of Iowa, College of Law. Ms. West has practiced law since 2000 with over four years of experience in labor and employment law. Prior to starting her own law practice, Ms. West was employed as an EEO Consultant with Bashen Consulting, a preeminent human resources consulting firm specializing in EEO investigations and claims management. As an EEO Consultant, Ms. West was primarily responsible for providing advice and recommendations to Fortune 500 companies, investigating employment discrimination charges, preparing position statements to the EEOC and other state agencies, and representing clients in mediation and before administrative tribunals.
Ms. West was also employed with Federal Labor Relations Authority ("FLRA") as a General Attorney for approximately two years. During her tenure with the FLRA, Ms. West investigated and prosecuted unfair labor practice complaint cases, which included the preparation of affidavits, pleadings, pretrial motions, and trial briefs. Ms. West also successfully negotiated settlement agreements and assisted labor-management groups with interest-based problem solving through Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR").
Notably, Ms. West served as a summer law clerk to U.S. District Judge, Honorable Clarence Cooper where she conducted legal research and prepared memoranda on various issues including employment discrimination and federal jurisdictional matters. During her matriculation at the University of Iowa, Ms. West also served as Senior Managing Editor of the Iowa Law Review Editorial Board, Volume 85, and assisted the Law Review with a record publication of nine journals.
As evidenced by her work history, Ms. West has gained significant experience in analyzing and evaluating complex legal issues, particularly in the area of labor and employment law. Ms. West has worked in both the private and public sectors, and she has a superior working knowledge of federal employment laws. She enjoys practicing law and pursues it with engagement. Ms. West is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and a certified mediator in workplace disputes.
