Marcus L.Weden has become the newest attorney in the law firm of Sweet & Maier S.C. Mr. Weden practices primarily in the areas of business law, estate planning, real estate, and taxation. Attorney Weden’s practice includes advising clients in tax controversy, tax planning and business planning. He has a wide variety of experience in advising clients on business transactional matters, including legal entity restructurings, statutory conversions and the formation of companies. He works closely with clients to identify the appropriate business form, implement the desired structure, document the business purpose and effectuate a tax planning strategy. In addition, he has worked on multiple mergers and acquisitions, including the performance of due diligence reviews of potential acquisition targets. These engagements have provided him with unique insight into the tax and business implications of a sale, acquisition or reorganization.

Prior to joining Sweet & Maier, S.C., Attorney Weden was a Tax Manager, Multistate Tax Services, with Deloitte Tax, LLP in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At Deloitte Tax, Mr. Weden had over 6 years of experience in income/franchise tax and sale/use tax planning and audit defense. He has worked with multiple clients who are being audited by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and has successfully reduced tax assessments and often work with clients to get in a net refund position. Attorney Weden’s background in “big four” public accounting provides him with a unique perspective on Wisconsin tax matters and uniquely positions him to advise clients of all sizes.

Mr. Weden received his Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Investment, and Banking from the University of Wisconsin—Madison in 2002. He graduated from Marquette University Law School in 2006. He grew up in East Troy, Wisconsin, and is familiar with Walworth County. His wife, Sarah, is a registered nurse who works for hospitals in Elkhorn, Burlington and Kenosha.
