Mr. Abernethy has extensive experience in white collar defense, corporate compliance and internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation. He is a recognized authority on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and regularly conducts FCPA training sessions for global corporations and advises on FCPA compliance programs. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Abernethy served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he was a lead prosecutor in a number of high-profile cases, and practiced at Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. In addition to FCPA matters, he has represented corporate and individual clients in a wide array of white collar investigations involving securities fraud, embezzlement, wire fraud, tax fraud, public corruption, theft of trade secrets and extortion. Mr. Abernethy is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review. Mr. Abernethy formerly served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Ronald L. Buckwalter of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Abernethy received his undergraduate degree with highest honors from Stanford University. He was named one of New York’s Super Lawyers for Criminal Defense: White Collar in 2010-2012.
