Josephine Liu, Counsel at the firm, focuses her practice in the areas of intellectual property litigation and counseling. She represented and/or counseled clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and animal health industries. Dr. Liu regularly litigates cases brought under Section 505(j) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (Hatch-Waxman). Her experience also includes representing clients in the medical device and petroleum products industries on various matters, including products liability and environmental liability. Dr. Liu has experience litigating disputes in both federal district courts and state courts.
Dr. Liu also provides strategic counseling to clients in conjunction with product development, including patent infringement and validity analyses. She has experience conducting and supervising intellectual property due diligence for acquisitions.
Dr. Liu received her J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law in 2005. She earned her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000, in a collaborative program between Amos B. Smith, III and Ralph Hirschmann, to design and synthesize drug candidates and to explore the potential of catalytic antibodies. As part of her research, Dr. Liu collaborated with academic research laboratories, and medicinal chemists and biologists at Merck & Co., Inc. to evaluate small molecules for their biological activity. In 1994, she received her A.B. in chemistry from Cornell University.
Dr. Liu is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
