Mike Leinz was born and raised in Colorado, where he graduated from Arvada West High School. Subsequently, he traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, to complete his education. Mike received his bachelor's and law degrees through his completion of the Three-Plus-Three Journalism and Law Program at Drake University.
While in law school, Mike was recruited to teach a course in Legal Research and Writing to first year law students, and served on the staff of the Drake Law Review. During a summer in Colorado, Mike also had the opportunity to clerk for the Chief Judge of the Jefferson County District Court. While working in the court system, Mike gained valuable insights into what judges prefer to receive from lawyers: concise, well-reasoned briefs written in plain English.
Mike joined the firm in 2002. Due to his strong legal research and writing skills, he quickly assumed a large proportion of the firm's work in those areas. Mike drafts the majority of substantive court documents that are filed on behalf of the firm's clients.
To assist the firm in providing the highest quality and most sophisticated legal expertise for its clients, Mike pioneered the use of computerized case management support, computerized deposition and trial transcripts, and digital trial evidence graphics within the firm. In a recent medical malpractice trial, Mike assisted Frank Coppola and Bill Marlin over the course of three weeks, managing the presentation of digital trial evidence to assist the jury in understanding complex medical issues.
Mike is a sitting member of the Amicus Committee of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. The committee works with plaintiffs and consumers in Colorado's appellate courts with regard to legal matters of statewide and national interest.
Outside the office, Mike enjoys his time with friends and family, and has a wide range of interests including fitness, literature, and classical music.
