SCOTT L. VOLKMAN was born in Mt. Kisco, New York and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York. He received his B.A. from the University at Albany in 1982 and his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University in 1985. Mr. Volkman's practice is concentrated in the areas of municipal law, zoning, planning, and land use matters, tax certiorari, bonding, real estate, credit union law, construction law, and civil litigation. He is a member of the New York State and Dutchess County Bar Associations.
Mr. Volkman served as an elected member of the City of Poughkeepsie Common Council. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the Mid Hudson Civic Center, Inc. and the McCann-Caven Golf Courses, Inc., the Poughkeepsie Urban Renewal Agency and the Poughkeepsie Industrial Development Agency.
Mr. Volkman has been the attorney for the Town of Pleasant Valley since 1989 and has served as the attorney for the TOwns of Rhinebeck and Hyde Park and has served as Special Counsel and Bond Counsel for many municipalities. Mr. Volkman is also Deputy Counsel for the Dutchess County Legislature.
Mr. Volkman was appointed as Chair of the 2011 City of Poughkeepsie Redistricting Commission.
