Katie has been involved in tax and estate planning for clients with large estates since she began her practice in 1986. When she started practicing, her father, whose firm she joined represented a number of successful family owned businesses some of which were quite large (50 to 100 million range). She worked with him and in some cases other attorneys specializing in the tax and estate planning area from across the country in succession and estate planning and was responsible for drafting trusts (including dynasty trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, Crummey trusts, charitable trusts, and the creation of charitable organizations including 501 (c)(3) organizations). Katie also has extensive experience with buy-sell agreements and other shareholder agreements and deferred compensation arrangements for key-employees. She has also dealt with a wide variety of employee-ownership issues.
Katie has continued to represent large family-owned businesses serving their tax and estate planning needs. Recently, she has been involved in many large transactions involving the purchase and sale of businesses and has represented those client-owners in tax and estate planning.
