Born and raised in the Morningside neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh, Mr. Konieczka attended Central Catholic High School from which he graduated in 1978. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, Mr. Konieczka attended the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law. Mr. Konieczka immediately began his career in the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office as a General and Felony Trial Assistant. In this position, Mr. Konieczka honed his trial skills trying hundreds of cases involving a wide variety of crimes including, but not limited to: DUI, Simple Assault, Aggravated Assault, Retail Theft, Disorderly Conduct, and Possession of Narcotics. Due to his trial and case management skills, Mr. Konieczka was selected to serve as Special U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, while working with other federal prosecutors, he coordinated investigations, indictments, and prosecutions, including trials of the L.A.W. (Larimer/Wilkinsburg) gang.
Following his time in the federal courthouse, Mr. Konieczka continually advanced through the District Attorney’s Office. He first served as a Narcotics prosecutor, handling the investigation and trial of serious felony and narcotics cases. He then served as the Pre-trial Supervisor overseeing the filing of over 18,000 criminal prosecutions a year and heading the ARD and expedited plea programs. He also served as the head prosecutor in the City of Pittsburgh Municipal Court, where he also created and ran the expedited Pleas of the ARD and PDQ programs. In this position, he worked closely with numerous magisterial district judges along with hundreds of police officers.
As a highly respected Attorney at Law, Mr. Konieczka was the head of the Violent Crime and Firearm Unit as well as the Felony Narcotics Unit providing legal advice to the County and City Detectives and supervising District Attorney Investigators of felony drug offenders, violent individuals, and gang members. During this time he supervised over fifteen Assistant District Attorney’s in the prosecution and trial of hundreds of Drug and firearms cases. He was a counsel for D.A.N.E.T., a team led by the District Attorney in the investigation and prosecution of narcotic trafficking individuals. Mr. Konieczka continues to serve as an instructor and conducts dozens of legal seminars for the attorney’s and local law enforcement.
