Steve Koppel's practice focuses on all aspects of real estate private equity and real estate finance, including a national practice in community development law. He represents institutional equity investors, throughout the United States and in Europe, in the acquisition, development, and financing of office buildings, hotels, multifamily housing, public storage facilities, shopping malls, and condominium projects. He also has extensive experience in all aspects of real estate finance and development, including the financing and development of affordable housing in connection with which he represents financial institutions in their construction lending and credit enhancement of tax-exempt bonds financing for multifamily housing, universities, medical facilities, congregate care facilities, student housing, and private high schools.
In addition, Steve represents major financial institutions and owners in real estate workouts, restructurings, foreclosures, and deeds in lieu of foreclosure and has done so for more than 20 years.
Steve recently advised on the formation of a fund to invest in the acquisition of land and distressed debt for JEN Partners, the workout of a $150 million land loan for Wachovia Bank, and a dozen new closings involving the credit enhancement for the construction of affordable housing and mixed-use developments for JPMorgan Chase Bank.
He also advises Allied Irish Banks, Citigroup Property Investors, Goldman Sachs, and Warburg Pincus.
Steve is a frequent lecturer on workouts of private equity sponsored developments. He is a coauthor of Warren Gorham & Lamont's Housing and Development Forms and Commentary.
