Mr. Koenig founded Koenig Law Group in 2009 after returning home to Atlanta from Washington, DC.
During his time in Washington, DC, George was Senior Counsel for Kemp Partners and Vice President & General Counsel for LandBridge Equity LLC. Kemp Partners, founded by former Congressman, Cabinet Secretary and Vice Presidential candidate Jack Kemp. George specialized in defense and homeland security matters providing his clients with legal and strategic counsel, relationship development and marketing advice to enable them to accomplish business and policy objectives. He was also Vice President and General Counsel for LandBridge Equity LLC, a real estate investment company in which Secretary Kemp was a principal investor and advisor.
Before joining Kemp Partners, George was Counsel with Alston & Bird LLP, an AmLaw 100 firm, where he practiced in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, securities, trial practice and litigation, government investigations and public policy.
Previously, George served as the Counsel to the General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where he advised the General Counsel and senior leadership at the Department. He served under both Secretary Tom Ridge and Secretary Michael Chertoff. Immediately following Hurricane Katrina, George was deployed to Louisiana and Mississippi in support of the Department's response and recovery efforts where he served as legal advisor to the principal federal official, Vice Admiral Thad Allen.
George received his J.D. from Catholic University's Columbus School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University. He is a veteran of the Unites States Marine Corps where he served as infantry and logistics officer.
George serves as vice-chair of the Homeland Security Division of the American Bar Association's (ABA) AdminLaw Section and is Vice-Chairman of the ABA's Annual Homeland Security Law Institute.
George has authored or co-authored a number of homeland security related articles for the ABA and other publications. In the Fall of 2006 and 2008, he has been a Professorial Lecturer in Law at George Washington University Law School teaching a course entitled Homeland Security Law and Policy. In the spring of 2005, he was an adjunct professor at American University's Washington College of Law, where he has taught a course by the same name.
George is married and the father of five. He is active with his Church and is Chairman Emeritus of the Marine Corps Association of Georgia Lawyers.
