Michael Stiegel is a member of the firm's Litigation Practice Group. Prior to his election to the Management Committee, he co-chaired the group. He has a commercial trial practice with an emphasis on complex and class action litigation and substantial experience handling a broad range of matters involving construction, intellectual property, securities, software, contracts, commercial disputes, with an emphasis in real estate and employment disputes, including restrictive covenants, breach of fiduciary duties and trade secrets. Mr. Stiegel has litigated and arbitrated high-profile cases throughout the country on behalf of publicly-held corporations and other major businesses.
He was appointed to the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committee for the Northern District of Illinois by its Chief Judge. He was elected to serve a three-year term on the Council for the American Bar Association's Litigation Section, the policy-making group for the Section's 75,000 members. Thereafter, he was elected to serve as Budget Officer and Executive Committee Member and later was elected for two terms as the Section's Revenue Officer. He also chaired the Chicago Bar Association's Large Firm Committee. Mr. Stiegel has written and spoken extensively on many litigation-related topics, including evidence, privileges, punitive damages, arbitration UPL, restrictive covenants and fiduciary duties at seminars and conferences throughout the country sponsored by the American Bar Association, National Practice Institute, ALI-ABA, PWC General Counsel Forum, and other professional organizations. Mr. Stiegel is an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University Law School, a Faculty Member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and an experienced AAA Arbitrator.
