Ed is a trial lawyer who has represented clients in major cases in all areas of business litigation. Ed joined the firm in January 1997. Previously, he had been a partner in the litigation section of Andrews & Kurth, L.L.P. from 1988 to 1996, and Reynolds, Allen & Cook from 1971 to 1988. Ed received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas (Bachelor of Business Administration - Accounting in 1968; Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1971).
For nearly 40 years, Ed has handled a broad range of civil matters including disputes relating to contracts, oil and gas, real estate, bank lending, construction and development, purchase and sales transactions, employment, and non-competition agreements as well as general tort litigation including cases involving claims of fraud, negligence, DTPA violations, professional malpractice, and antitrust.
Ed is admitted to practice in Texas courts, including the Supreme Court of Texas, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Ed has been active in local and state bar associations and related organizations. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Bar Foundation, and the Texas Bar Foundation. Ed served as a director of the Houston Bar Association for 13 years and as a director of the Houston Bar Foundation for 2 years; he is a former treasurer of the Houston Bar Foundation and the Houston Bar Association. Ed has also served on various Houston Bar Association committees including the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, the Houston Lawyer Referral Service, and the Administration of Justice committee. He also served on the steering committee which planned and organized portions of the annual meeting of the State Bar of Texas held in June 1997 in Houston.
Ed is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and an Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He has been recognized by Woodward/White, Inc. as one of America's "Best Lawyers" in 1999-2013 and as one of Houston's "Super Lawyers" in 2003-2012 (a Thomson Reuters service).
Ed has been active in numerous civic and community organizations including the Post Oak YMCA, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Memorial Hospital System, and the Hunterwood Homeowners Association. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of CanCare.
