Barbara A. Jorgenson has more than 20 years experience in helping spouses and parents in family law matters. While she has substantial trial and appellate experience, Ms. Jorgenson believes that in many cases, mediation and alternative dispute resolution are the proper avenues to help individuals and families. Ms. Jorgenson has experience as a family law mediator and is certified in the collaborative practice of dispute resolution.
Ms. Jorgenson has significant experience in tracing assets and in the valuation of closely held corporations and professional practices. Ms. Jorgenson's practice areas include custody, visitation, child support, alimony, distribution of marital property, settlement and prenuptial agreements, adoption, guardianship, estate planning for unmarried couples and for small to medium sized estates, and employment discrimination.
Ms. Jorgenson has a long-time commitment to pro bono practice. Since 2000, she has been the managing mentor for the Pro Bono Family Law Clinic for the Community Legal Services Foundation of Prince George's County, Maryland, for which her firm received the Pro Bono Service Award in 2007.
Ms. Jorgenson is a graduate of the University of Florida (with honors, Kappa Tau Alpha) and the Catholic University Columbus School of Law, where she was a law review editor. Prior to joining JGL, she was Director of the Office of Public Affairs at the National Academy of Sciences and the Director of Public Information for the President's Commission on the Accident at Three Mile Island.
