Squire, Daniel H.

Daniel H. Squire is a partner in the firm's Regulatory and Government Affairs and Litigation/Controversy Departments, and a member of the Business Trial Group and the Environmental and Financial Institutions Practice Groups. He joined the firm in 1991.

Practice

Mr. Squire's financial institutions practice has focused on consumer credit and insurance issues, including counseling and litigation. He has represented financial institutions in a variety of consumer credit, mortgage lender and insurance class action matters in federal and state courts. He has also counseled clients on regulatory matters under the consumer credit laws. 

Mr. Squire's environmental litigation practice has focused on handling cleanup cost recovery litigation among private parties and defending federal and state government enforcement actions. He has represented clients in complicated private cost recovery litigation involving issues of lender liability, successor liability and corporate officer indemnification. He has also represented national and local environmental organizations in litigation to require fish passage and other environmental conditions in hydroelectric dam licenses nationwide

In addition to his work in the financial institutions and environmental areas, Mr. Squire has worked on matters in the areas of election, product liability, employment, corporate, antitrust and international trade law. He has represented clients in civil and criminal matters in the federal courts, including the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Federal, First, Second, Fourth, Sixth, Eighth, Tenth and Eleventh Circuits; the United States Court of International Trade; the United States Court of Federal Claims; the District Court for the District of Columbia and several federal district courts nationwide; and in state courts, including the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, Superior Court of the District of Columbia and others.

Recent Highlights

Mr. Squire's recent matters include:

• Representation of a national credit reporting agency in a class action challenging the reporting of a data furnisher’s tradelines without the credit limits
• Representation of an insurance company in a putative class action challenging mutual fund revenue arrangements, and in a combined class action and derivative action lawsuit arising out of a change in control transaction
• Representation of a mortgage lender in several putative class action cases pursuant to state secondary mortgage lender laws   
• Representation of a battery manufacturer, a paint manufacturer, and a real estate investment partnership as defendants in various government and private environmental cost recovery actions
