Kevin Smith, an associate in Wiggin and Dana's Litigation Department, has successfully represented the firm's clients in a variety of civil trial and appellate matters. Kevin's work includes medical malpractice and personal injury defense, product liability, and general business litigation, including the defense of class action lawsuits. On behalf of the firm's clients, he has handled numerous matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts, including issues involving expert and electronic discovery, class certification, multi-district litigation (MDL), civil rights, the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA). For example, Kevin recently briefed, argued, and won at both the Connecticut Superior Court and Connecticut Appellate Court an important dismissal of a medical malpractice lawsuit under Connecticut's good faith certificate statute (113 Conn. App. 569, cert denied, 292 Conn. 911). In 2010, Kevin was selected as "Rising Star" in New England Super Lawyers in the categories of business and personal injury litigation.
Kevin graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Ethics, Politics & Economics, and received his J.D. magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Georgetown Law Journal. Before joining the firm, Kevin served as law clerk to the Honorable Thomas F. Hogan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and to the Honorable Barrington D. Parker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
