Smith, Michael H.

John S. Smith became a member of the Maryland Bar in 1986, and a member of the federal bar in 1988.

Since then, he has been handling all types of personal injury cases: auto, truck, motorcycle, bike, boat, jet-ski, and pedestrian accidents, slips and fall accidents, accidents caused by defective products, injuries to workers on and off the job, and medical malpractice cases. He has a reputation as an accomplished litigator, and has always gotten the best possible results for every client. He is currently a mediator and settlement conference officer for the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, Maryland and has been since 1992. In these roles, he has handled dozens and dozens of personal injury cases for the court system.

He has been named to Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who among American Executives and Professionals.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Smith was in the US Army. He retired in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1990 after 22 years as a combat arms veteran. His last assignment was as the Executive officer, War Plans Division, United States Army, Pentagon. In his last assignment, he was the principal author of the war plan for Iraq (Operation Desert Shield). He was a U.S. Army Ranger and served in the artillery and aviation branches of the Army throughout his 22 years. He had several commands in his military career including a nuclear missile artillery battery, an Assault Support Helicopter Company (Chinooks), a Field Artillery Service Battery, an Assault Helicopter Platoon where he acted daily as an air mission commander for complex air and ground combat operations in Vietnam, and a division artillery aviation section. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal for Valor, Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Army Staff Badge, Master Expert Marksman, and the Ranger Tab.

Mr. Smith is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law, the Command and General Staff College (Commandant’s List), Saint Bernadine of Siena College (dean’s List), Christian Brothers Academy (distinguished military graduate), United States Army Ranger School, United States Army Aviation School, and has attended courses at the White House and Capitol Hill on the Presidency and legislative process, as well as the Foreign Service Institute’s Foreign Policy Seminar.

Extracurricular activities: United States National Championship Rifle Team, Arthur Murray Harrisburg Showcase with wife – Best Couple (twice); World Dance-O-Rama with wife - six gold medals, one silver; commercial pilot; Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce (President, 1996, Board of Directors 1994-1999); Bayanihan Filipino American Alliance of Maryland (current President, Board of Directors 2006-present), coached football, basketball, soccer, baseball for youth leagues.
Enjoys bowling, dancing, long distance running. Formerly served as eucharistic minister, lector, usher, and secretary of parish council.
