Mr. Smee is an associate with the law firm of Zampi, Determan & Erickson LLP. He practices in the areas of general civil litigation and education law. During his career, he has represented clients from both the plaintiffs' and defendants' perspective. As a former criminal prosecutor, he has substantial trial experience, having prosecuted over thirty trials and presented evidence in many court hearings. After leaving the Tulare County District Attorney's Office in 2008, he served as general counsel to one of California's largest roofing subcontractors in the midst of complex construction defect litigation.
Mr. Smee also has substantial experience in business and real estate litigation, having assisted trial counsel in large real estate lawsuits, corporate lawsuits involving breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and breach of contract, creditors' rights advocacy, probate and trust administration, drafting estate plans, quiet title matters, judicial foreclosures, unlawful detainers and commercial bankruptcies. His litigation experience also includes a significant insurance defense background.
Mr. Smee graduated magna cum laude from California Western School of Law in 2003 on a full scholarship and served as a member of Law Review. He graduated cum laude from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2000, where he played baseball on a scholar-athlete award for three successive years, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
Mr. Smee is a member of the California Bar, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central and Northern Districts of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Christian Legal Society and the San Diego County Bar Association. He lives in Escondido with his wife and three children.
