Matt Silversten has represented clients before state and federal courts throughout the United States in litigation matters spanning various areas of law, including contracts, attorney malpractice, corporate criminal investigations, and other types of business litigation. He also has represented clients in ADR proceedings, including arbitration tribunals. A significant portion of Matt's practice involves representing corporate clients in complex contract disputes, including corporate policyholders in litigation against their insurers arising out of environmental, product liability, and property damage liabilities. Matt has also briefed and argued several cases before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Matt is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association. In addition, he serves on the board of directors of the nonprofit Playhouse Square Partners, a Cleveland organization devoted to promoting and encouraging the awareness, education, and participation in the performing arts at Playhouse Square Center.
Matt has embraced Jones Day's commitment to providing pro bono services to the community. His pro bono work includes representation on criminal matters before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court and counseling nonprofit organizations regarding insurance coverage. He is also an active participant in the Firm's joint Housing Court Program with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland whereby the Firm provides pro bono representation in Cleveland's Housing Court to tenants selected by the Legal Aid Society.
Every 20 years, Cleveland City Council selects 15 residents to sit on a charter review commission. The commission reviews Cleveland's charter, the "Constitution" of the city of Cleveland, and makes recommendations about how to improve and modernize the charter. In 2008, Matt was proud to serve as a member of the charter review commission.
