Consumer lawyer Elizabeth Shollenberger concentrates on consumer law and tenant representation. She has spent most of her career representing low-income clients with civil legal problems.

From 1988 through 2003, Ms. Shollenberger practiced at Bronx Legal Services, where she served as a Staff Attorney (1988-1992); Housing Unit Director (1992-1999) and Managing Attorney of the Elder Law Unit (1999-2003).

From 2003 through 2009, Ms. Shollenberger served as a supervising attorney at Queens Legal Services where she served as Director of the Government Benefits, Elder Law, Unemployment & Consumer Law Units

Immediately prior to joining the consumer law firm of Schlanger & Schlanger, Ms. Shollenberger was in solo practice as a litigator.

She has litigated cases for clients in a wide range of state trial courts, state appellate courts (including the Court of Appeals, New York’s highest court), and the federal courts, achieving outstanding results (see below).

Elizabeth is a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs of Princeton University and of the Yale Law School. She has taught at N.Y.U. School of Law as a full-time faculty member and at New York Law School as an adjunct professor.

She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Westchester County Women’s Bar Association, and the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Elizabeth was twice honored by the New York City Bar Association, once in 1987 with the Thurgood Marshall Award for representing inmates on death row and again in 2007 with the Legal Services Award for effective and creative representation of clients.

She has lectured on mortgage foreclosures, tenants’ rights, and workers’ rights for various community and bar groups, including the New York State Bar Association, the Rockland County Bar Association and the Queens County Bar Association.

Ms. Shollenberger is the author of a recent article in the Westchester Women’s Bar Association September, 2012 bulletin on effective use of New York’s “borrowing statute” to shorten the statute of limitations in consumer collection actions.

Outside of her paid employment, Elizabeth founded and operated a walk-in housing clinic in Greenwich Village which provided advice to local tenants. She also volunteered with Gay Men’s Health Crisis, representing people with AIDS in a variety of matters. Since 2003, she has been the Chair of the White Plains Democratic City Committee.

Elizabeth Shollenberger joined Schlanger & Schlanger, LLP as a consumer protection attorney in 2012.
