John Hobgood is a counsel in the firm's Intellectual Property Department. He joined the firm in 2005.
Practice
Mr. Hobgood focuses his practice on patent prosecution and client counseling in the fields of chemical engineering, electronics and medical devices. His practice includes strategic development, analysis and management of domestic and foreign patent portfolios, client counseling, and intellectual property due diligence for transactions and financings.
While in law school, Mr. Hobgood worked for Boston Scientific Inc., where he researched patents and applications, prepared IP landscape reports for new market opportunities and drafted assignment and licensing agreements.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hobgood was a process control engineer in the petrochemical industry. He designed and implemented plant control systems, including plant data historian and billing systems. In addition, he was a member of numerous manufacturing plant startup teams. He has also worked as an environmental engineer at a chemical plant, where he assisted with environmental government regulatory compliance, implemented cost reduction projects for hazardous waste disposal and assisted with completion of a plant Title V permit application.
As an undergraduate studying Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, Mr. Hobgood conducted research evaluating empirical modeling techniques for chemical processes.
