Ms. Hiter practices primarily in the area of local government law, with a focus on special purpose governmental entities. She assists government clients with condemnation actions and other land use issues. She also advises on compliance with statutes such as the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Public Procurement Act, Conflict of Interests Act, Public Records Act, and Public Finance Act.
She is active in the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, Inc. and is a member of the Local Government Section of the Virginia State Bar. She also serves as a court-appointed attorney for indigent criminal defendants and assists business clients in forming and operating local businesses.
Ms. Hiter graduated from the University of Virginia in with a bachelor’s degree in English. She received her law degree magna cum laude from Washington and Lee University School of Law, where she graduated in the top 5% of her law school class and was named to the Order of the Coif. She served as the Executive Editor of the Washington and Lee Journal of Energy, Climate, and the Environment and as a Staffwriter for the Washington and Lee Law Review. She also assisted low-income taxpayers in the Washington and Lee Tax Clinic and completed an externship with the County Attorney for Augusta County, Virginia.
Ms. Hiter and her husband live in Abingdon. In their spare time, they enjoy exploring the mountains and valleys of Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee.
