Practice
Ms. Shaikh focuses her practice on prosecution and opinion work in the life sciences, biotechnology and green fuels. She assists clients with United States and international patent law in these areas.
Past Experience
Ms. Shaikh has extensive professional experience in the life sciences. Prior to joining WilmerHale, Ms. Shaikh worked for a large international pharmaceutical company developing and validating a variety of assays in support of Investigational New Drug filings. This work included the development and qualification of potency and binding assays for the characterization and release of therapeutic humanized antibodies in support of preclinical and clinical studies. These assays were developed for use in a number of platforms including ELISA, cell-based assays and FACS.
Ms. Shaikh’s prior academic experience primarily concerned the study of folate metabolism. In particular, she examined the relationship between the expression of cytoplasmic serine hydroxymethyltransferase and the expression of heavy chain ferritin. She has considerable expertise in mutagenesis, cloning, and the expression and purification of proteins through bacterial, yeast and mammalian cell systems.
While in law school, Ms. Shaikh served as a student attorney for Boston College Law School’s Community Enterprise Clinic where she carried out transactional work and advised small businesses, nonprofit organizations and community development associations.
