Chip Hider has been a resident of Dallas since 1974. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Vanderbilt University and his Juris Doctor Law Degree from Indiana University School of Law. Mr. Hider also holds a Masters of Law Degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
Mr. Hider has been a lawyer for more than 31 years. He is licensed to practice law in all of the courts of the States of Texas and Colorado and specializes in tax litigation in the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Courts, and U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals. He also is a member of the Dallas Bar Association: Tax Section (1975-2011), and Alternative Dispute Resolution Section (1994-2000); State Bar of Texas: Tax Section (1978-2011), Committee on Tax Specialization and Committee on Community Property Tax Problems (1979-1980), Committee on Real Estate Tax Problems (1985-1986), Women and The Law Section (1994-2002), and Section of Dispute Resolution (1995-2000); American Bar Association: Section on Taxation (1972- 2002), Committee on Civil and Criminal Penalties (1988-1990), and Section of Dispute Resolution (1996-2002).
Before entering private practice, Mr. Hider was a Senior Trial Attorney for the Office of Chief Counsel, IRS, in Dallas and Miami (1972-1980), where he engaged in review, negotiation, settlement and trial of civil and criminal tax cases and provided legal advice to the various divisions of the IRS. During his eight years with the IRS, Mr. Hider received considerable settlement negotiation and courtroom tax litigation experience in a variety of substantive and procedural federal tax issues.
Mr. Hider entered private practice in 1980; and, in addition to representing taxpayers in civil and criminal tax controversies and litigation matters, he also advises and assists clients in business and corporate matters by furnishing general legal advice to clients in connection with the conduct of their businesses.
Mr. Hider represents estates and heirs in probate administration matters and IRS estate tax examinations. He acts as advisor and represents clients in pre-bankruptcy tax planning and bankruptcy tax proceedings.
Also, Mr. Hider is a trained Mediator and Neutral, (March 1995) and his legal background and cross-cultural communication experiences provide him with excellent skills to assist parties to settlements of a variety of conflicts and litigation. Mr. Hider also is active in facilitating gender communication/conflict resolution workshops and seminars (1993-2000) for women and men to promote mutual understanding of and respect for our differences and similarities.
Formerly a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Mr. Hider was certified by Judge Advocate General to do special and general court martial's during 1969 through 1971 (the Vietnam War Era). He also designed and managed an Anti-Drug Abuse Program of teaching, counseling and advice, available to a 5,000 soldier Air Defense Artillery Group and eventually to all the soldiers at Fort Bliss, Texas.
He contributes to the community as President of the World Cultural Alliance, Inc. (WCA), a nonprofit corporation engaged in international educational programs in Dallas, Mexico, Canada and the former Soviet Union. Mr. Hider is Founding Director and current Advisor/Director of the Dallas/Riga (Latvia) Sister City Program, approved by the Dallas and Riga City Councils. He is active in his church as a Youth Religious Education Teacher, facilitator of Men's Fellowship programs, and Journey To Wholeness Anti-Racism Team (1997-2002). Mr. Hider also is a member of the Dismantling Racism Initiative of the Greater Dallas Community of Churches (1998-2002).
Mr. Hider's personal interests include adventure, walking and jogging for health, reading, music, movies, opera, theater, and travel.
