Janeen Hicks-Pierre joined the firm of Rawls, Scheer, Foster & Mingo in the spring of 2012 and practices exclusively in the area of immigration law and is a board certified specialist. Her diverse background and experiences have helped Ms. Hicks-Pierre to be highly respected by both colleagues and clients in the area of immigration law.
Professional Experience
Janeen majored in International Studies and minored in Spanish while at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She went on to graduate from law school at Loyola University in New Orleans. Prior to joining Rawls, Scheer, Foster & Mingo, Janeen was the managing attorney at the Charlotte office of Kuck Immigration partners and the supervisor for litigation at Catholic Charities in Atlanta Georgia. Janeen has gained a multitude of experiences, practicing in all areas of U.S. immigration and nationality law and now focuses on deportation defense. She regularly practices before immigration courts nationwide and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Janeen represents foreign nationals in immigration court who are seeking asylum, applying for cancellation of removal, or other forms of relief before immigration judges. She also prepares appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals and federal circuit courts. Janeen represents clients at asylum, adjustment of status (through family relationships or employment), and citizenship interviews. She also prepares visa applications for victims of abuse, crime, and human trafficking.
Janeen’s years of experience in deportation defense have provided her with extensive knowledge and understanding of the deportation process. She has given numerous trainings for the Georgia Asylum Immigration Network (GAIN) for new immigration practitioners. She also facilitates "Know Your Rights" presentations with the UNC School of Law, and conducts immigration workshops with the Latin American Coalition of Charlotte and the Charlotte Coalition for Social Justice. She has taught a number of CLE's with the Mecklenburg County Bar and has been a guest panelist at the Charlotte School of Law.
Janeen and her immigration assistants are fluent in Spanish. Janeen is also a member in good standing of the North Carolina State Bar, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the American Immigration Lawyers' Association ("AILA").
Personal
Janeen is a Charlotte native who has enjoyed establishing her practice in her home town. She is married to a loving husband and enjoys traveling and reading.
