Seifman, Barry A.

Dr. Mary Rose Scozzafava is a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property and Litigation/Controversy Departments, and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation and Nanotechnology Practice Groups. She joined the firm in 2001.

Practice

Dr. Scozzafava has extensive experience in client counseling and patent prosecution in the fields of chemistry (including polymers and coatings), pharmaceuticals and materials science. Her experience includes implementing patent strategies and counseling for emerging businesses, as well as corporate-related intellectual property matters. She has been involved in the preparation of patentability, infringement and validity opinions. She also has litigated patents in the areas of pharmaceuticals and food science.

Recent Highlights

• Currently managing the patent portfolio for an emerging nanotechnology company
• Successfully defended university client’s patent against third-party opposition in Japan
• Provided product clearance advice in the area of chemistry and electrochemistry to local technology company

Professional Activities

Dr. Scozzafava is currently serving a two-year term as co-chair of the Boston Patent Law Association's Pro-Bono Committee. She is a member of the Nanotechnology Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association, and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Boston Bar Association.
