Schwartzberg, Alan L.

Chris Schuyler is a member of the Directors and Officers Practice Group and primarily focuses on business, transactional and finance issues for corporate and insurance industry clients, as well as regulatory counseling for insurers, reinsurers and insurance brokers.

After initial training in banking, project finance, corporate and securities law at Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon LLP, Chris worked in-house for several years at Pfizer Inc. in a general counseling capacity.  Chris returned to private practice in 2000 and focused on securitization, structured finance and other financial transactions at Dewey Ballantine LLP and Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP in New York and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP in London.

Chris earned a B.A. in political science and economics at the University of New Hampshire in 1981, a M.A. in International Affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in 1985, and a J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law in 1989, where he served on the Editorial Board of The Virginia Journal of Law and Politics.  After receiving his law degree, Chris attended the Program on Public International Law at The Hague Academy of International Law.  In 2008, Chris earned a Master of Business Administration degree at London Business School.  He also earned certificates from the FINRA at Wharton Certified Regulatory and Compliance Professional program in 2010 and New York University’s Ethics and Corporate Governance program in 2011. 

Chris is admitted to the New York Bar and the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales.  He is a member of the Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals, the American Bar Association (and serves on its Corporate Governance Committee), The Law Society of England and Wales, and the National Association of Corporate Directors, from which he expects to earn the Governance Fellow designation in 2011.

Chris was appointed by direct commission to the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1987 and served in the Naval Reserve Intelligence Program until 1995.
