Lawrence Schempp is the Director of Professional Development and Training at Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin. He is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive legal and professional skills training programs for entry- and intermediate-level associates, as well as refresher courses for all attorneys in the firm on cutting edge and evolving legal issues affecting the litigation practice. He also oversees and coordinates the firm's continuing legal education programs for attorneys. In addition to his work at the firm, Mr. Schempp is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Drexel University College of Law where he teaches a first-year course in Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiation.
Before joining Marshall Dennehey, Mr. Schempp was a member of the full-time faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. At Penn he taught and supervised in the Civil Practice Clinic, a course in which upper-level students represented clients of the Penn Legal Assistance Office, a teaching pro bono law firm within the law school. His course included a seminar component in which students were trained, through the use of interactive exercises, role plays, videotaped simulations and film critique, in lawyering skills encompassing all aspects of civil litigation. In the fieldwork component of the course, students represented clients, under Mr. Schempp's supervision, in civil matters pending in the state and federal courts and administrative agencies. A heavy emphasis on the application of the Rules of Professional Conduct was interlaced throughout the process.
Prior to teaching, Mr. Schempp had ten years of experience in complex commercial litigation practice, in both a large firm and a litigation boutique in Philadelphia. His primary areas of practice included shareholder, partnership and corporate governance disputes, employment and executive compensation disputes, complex contracts disputes, class action antitrust and securities litigation, RICO defense, products liability defense, and unfair trade practices cases in the state and federal courts.
Mr. Schempp received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. in 1990, and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1981.
