In Bill Hansen's 27 years of practice, his focus has been in representing injured people in what is known as complex tort claims. These often involve multiple plaintiffs, multiple defendants, large budget, big damage claims requiring numerous expert witnesses. Typical of these cases would be medical malpractice (misdiagnosis of cancer or heart conditions, catastrophic birth injuries, etc.), legal malpractice, products liability (e.g., non-child-resistant lighters, electric blankets, etc.), insurance coverage or insurer misconduct cases (e.g., bad faith claims, excess liability for refusal to settle, professional disability claims, etc.), severe injury or death cases (e.g., from motor vehicle accidents, natural gas explosions, aviation claims), and commercial fraud and misconduct claims. Due to his outstanding legal research and writing abilities, he also does extensive appellate work, often as an amicus (friend of the court) for the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association on such issues as tort reform, medical malpractice, evidence, expert witnesses, damages and constitutional law, and is a frequent lecturer in those areas.
In 2007 Mr. Hansen collected over $15 million in recoveries for his clients in products liability, medical malpractice, and general personal injury cases.
In 2008 Mr. Hansen received an award from the Colorado Defense Lawyers' Association "For the highest standards of competency, ethics, and professionalism."
In Mr. Hansen's infrequent spare time, he writes and lectures on Denver history, collects antiques and old toy soldiers, and travels.
