Agnna Varinia Guzman is an Associate of our Immigration and Employment Practice Group. Agnna graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations and earned her J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California.
As a current SoCal chapter Liaison of AILA, Agnna has more than 15 years of professional experience in immigration law with an emphasis on business immigration. She has been responsible for a wide variety of nonimmigrant visas, labor certification applications, immigrant visas, adjustment of status applications, conditional residence petitions and consular processing applications. In particular, Agnna is very experienced in overseeing the preparation and submission of E, H-1B, L-1 and TN nonimmigrant visas, PERM labor certification applications, and immigrant visa petitions from the first through third preference categories
Agnna advises U.S. employers on I-9 employment eligibility verification, corporate compliance, employer sanctions and I-9 audits. Her background in human resources for two multinational companies in an in-house legal capacity has provided her with insight into the immigration needs of large companies
Throughout her career, Agnna has assisted Fortune 500 corporations in various industries, including high-technology, pharmaceutical, automotive, electronics, healthcare, biotechnology, banking, insurance, architecture, financial, telecommunications, construction, and state government entities. She has also counseled emerging start-ups, mid-size companies and immigrant entrepreneurs
In addition to immigration, Agnna is well-versed in international law. She regularly counsels clients and prepares memoranda on international trade treaties, country of origin determination, duty-free treatment, licenses, customs regulation, and antidumping and countervailing duties pertaining to U.S. imports. Moreover, she identifies licensing requirements based on export control regulations for international products and drafts loan and property agreements for international transactions.
While earning her law degree, Agnna served as a Judicial Extern to the U.S. Department of Justice, Executive Office of Immigration Review, Immigration Court in San Diego. She has received numerous awards for excellence, including the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Immigration Law, the State Bar of California Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services, and the Outstanding Law Graduate Award from the National Association of Women Lawyers.
Agnna is fluent in Spanish and German. Her family immigrated to the United States from El Salvador during the Salvadoran Civil War, which sparked Agnna’s early interest and passion in immigration law
