James B. Duquette was welcomed to the firm of Seymour, Kremer, Koch & Lochowicz LLP, in January of 2009. Prior to joining the firm he was an Assistant State Public Defender in Walworth County. His primary focus is now on litigation, working on criminal defense, civil litigation, insurance law, landlord and tenant, and personal injury cases. He has successfully tried cases in small claims and circuit court, with experience before judges and juries. James is also a bankruptcy attorney, licensed in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.
James is an Illinois native who first moved to Wisconsin to attend UW – Stevens Point, where he served as president of the Student Government Association and graduated in 2005. James then studied at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There he clerked at the Indian Child Welfare Law Center of Minneapolis, at a private civil litigation and insurance defense firm in Minneapolis, and at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota. James was also asked to be a research assistant for Constitutional Law scholar Thomas C. Berg, and he earned the Dean's Award for Advanced Trial Advocacy. He received his Juris Doctorate in 2008.
James is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Walworth County Bar Association, and he is licensed to practice in the United States District Court of Wisconsin, both Western and Eastern Districts.
