An Orange County native, David S. Ritter joins the Blustein, Shapiro, Rich & Barone, LLP litigation team after a legendary career as a judge and prosecutor. From 1985 through 2011 Mr. Ritter served with distinction as a New York State Supreme Court Justice, highlighted by his service as an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, from 1990 through 2008. Mr. Ritter also served as the Administrative Judge of the Ninth Judicial District from 1988 through 1990. Mr. Ritter began his judicial career as an Orange County Court Judge, serving in that role from 1981-1984. In 1983, Mr. Ritter presided over the notorious Brinks murder trial, a case which garnered international attention.
Prior to his distinguished judicial career, Mr. Ritter served as the Orange County District Attorney from 1976 through 1980.
Mr. Ritter's practice is concentrated in commercial litigation and appeals. He also serves as a mediator and arbitrator.
Mr. Ritter is a graduate of Union College and Cornell Law School. He resides in New Hampton, New York.
