Maggie is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. She is a member of the Business Litigation Section and the Financial Markets Group. Maggie practices principally in the areas of:

  • Business litigation
  • Arbitration
  • Securities litigation
  • Employment litigation
  • Non-compete and non-solicitation agreements
  • Fiduciary duty claims
  • Shareholder and partnership litigation
  • Financial institutions defense

Maggie represents broker-dealers, registered representatives and insurance companies in state court, federal court, and arbitrations before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), which was formerly known as the NASD. She defends clients in customer disputes involving claims of unsuitability, misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty, and violations of state and federal securities laws. She also has experience with intra-industry disputes, such as raiding claims and employment disputes involving misappropriation of trade secrets and breaches of non-solicitation agreements.

Maggie has successfully represented employers and obtained injunctive relief in Minnesota and Oklahoma state courts to enforce former employees’ non-compete and non-solicitation agreements and to prevent misappropriation of the clients’ trade secrets. In other employment litigation, she has defended employers in cases involving sexual harassment and hostile work environment claims.

Maggie also represents officers and directors of publicly traded corporations and private companies in a variety of disputes. In 2007, she successfully defended a large publicly traded company and several of its officers and directors in a securities fraud “stock drop” class action case. On the Defendants’ Motion to Dismiss the Complaint for failure to satisfy the heightened pleading requirements of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act (PSLRA), the Minnesota federal district court dismissed the class action complaint with prejudice.

A significant focus of Maggie’s practice is arbitration. She has represented several large brokerage firms in arbitration actions that were initiated in state court and has obtained favorable rulings compelling the plaintiffs to arbitrate their disputes. In a tortious interference with contract case, Maggie represented a non-signatory to an arbitration agreement and obtained a court order compelling one of the signatories to arbitrate the parties’ dispute.

Prior to joining Briggs in 2002, Maggie clerked for the Honorable Terri Stoneburner of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. During law school, she worked as a law clerk in the corporate legal department of a publicly traded technology services company headquartered in Minneapolis.

Maggie is admitted to practice before Minnesota state courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and Minnesota Women Lawyers. Minnesota Law & Politics has included Maggie in its list of “Minnesota Rising Stars.”

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Maggie received her B.A. in journalism magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota. She received her law degree cum laude from the University of Minnesota School of Law, where she was a note and comment editor of the Minnesota Law Review.
