Dr. Bilyana Georgieva is a senior associate in the firm's Intellectual Property Department. She joined the firm in 2005.

Practice

Dr. Georgieva's practice is in the following areas:

• Representation of clients before the US Patent and Trademark Office including patent application preparation and prosecution;
• IP advice and client counseling related to patent portfolio management, patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate assessments and corporate transactions, including due diligence and competitive landscape analysis;
• IP support in litigations of pharmaceutical and life sciences patents.

Dr. Georgieva represents clients in the life sciences areas, especially in the fields of biotechnology, molecular biology, biology, biochemistry and immunology.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Georgieva worked as a scientific advisor at another New York City law firm, where she focused on biotechnology patent prosecution.

Professional Activities

Dr. Georgieva earned her PhD in molecular genetics from Columbia University. Her research interests were in the areas of cellular and molecular responses to genotoxic stress. Dr. Georgieva has published work in peer-reviewed journals, such as Cell and Molecular and Cellular Biology. While pursuing her PhD, Dr. Georgieva was a graduate teaching assistant for the “Advanced Eukaryotic Genetics” course in the fall of 2001.
