Peter J. Daughtery. Pete is the son of a United Methodist minister and public school educator and graduated from the public schools in Thomasville, Georgia. Pete attended the University of Georgia where he earned his degree in Political Science while holding leadership positions as President of the pre-law society and his social fraternity. After graduating as member of the political science honors society, Pete continued his education at the University of Georgia law school where he joined the prestigious Moot Court program to orally argue cases against other law schools. In his third year of law school, Pete served as chairperson of the Moot Court Board, which has captured numerous national championships and world championships, and Pete was inducted into The Order of the Barristers for his excellence in courtroom advocacy.
After graduation from law school in 1989, Pete was on the ground floor of a five person law firm which grew over the next 16 years to national prominence. During his ten years as a partner at this law firm, Pete recovered more than 200 million dollars for his clients and the firm as a whole exceeded a billion dollars in recovery for its clients. During those early years, Pete served as President of the Young Alumni Organization for the University of Georgia Law School and President of the state wide young lawyers division of the State Bar of Georgia. More recently, Pete served as president of the Columbus Bar Association, and has served on the Executive Committee of the State Bar. Pete also served as one of four representatives from Columbus to the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia. Pete was appointed by the Supreme Court of Georgia to serve on a committee addressing the unauthorized practice of law in Columbus and the surrounding areas, and he has also worked to improve lawyer conduct and ethics through service on the two committees responsible for lawyer discipline in the State of Georgia. Pete has been recognized by local, state, and national bar organizations for his pro bono volunteer legal work for children in the areas of special needs education and truancy.
Pete has been married for sixteen years to Julie Wray Daughtery and they have one daughter. Their family attends St. Paul United Methodist Church. Pete is very active in Community organizations and has served on the Boards of the Boys and Girls Club and Uptown Columbus. He is also a past president of Open Door Community House in Columbus and a former trustee of Magnolia Manor and The Lawyers Foundation of Georgia. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Midtown Columbus and is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Andrew College. Pete is a fellow of the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia, which is an honor restricted to only 3% of the lawyers in Georgia. Induction as a fellow reflects those lawyers whose public and private careers demonstrate outstanding legal abilities and a devotion to their communities.
In 2012, Pete was voted a Georgia “Super Lawyer” by his peers which is a recognition limited to 5% of the practicing lawyers in Georgia.
